NFL Player Ovie Mughelli (1)By Cyd Zeigler

An attorney for Atlanta Falcons fullback Ovie Mughelli has sent cease-and-desist letters to some Web sites that have published the allegations of a man who claims to have had a sexual relationship with Mughelli.

Outsports has obtained a copy of the letter sent to Mediaoutrage.com by Phaedra Parks, an Atlanta-based attorney specializing in entertainment and sports.:

“Your blog is replete with defamatory statements as it relates to Mr. Mughelli,” the letter says. “If you do not cease and desist immediately, we will have no alternative but to seek an immediate permanent injunction and sue you for damages for defamation and false light.NFL Player Ovie Mughelli (2)

“Under the law, you and your company are liable for defamatory and false statements. You and your company have continuously published and/or posted stories and/or comments that allege that Mr. Mughelli is a homosexual and is or was involved in a homosexual affair with a man. As you are aware, making libelous and defamatory statements are punishable by law and subject to monetary damages and punitive relief. Accordingly, in an action for defamation, Mr. Mughelli is not required to show that you posted the story and/or comments with a malicious intent. The fact that you posted this story and these comments at all is sufficient to subject you to liability and civil damages.”

Cynthia Counts, an Atlanta-based First Amendment lawyer who also represents Outsports, questioned Parks’ legal claim.

“Ms. Parks fails to acknowledge that Mr. Mughelli is a public figure who would be required to show actual malice,” Counts said. “In fact, as a public figure, Mr. Mughelli would have to prove not only that the statement is false, but also that the publisher either knew its statements were false or had a subjective awareness of the probable falsity of the statements.”

Ottawa―The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, today announced that Canada will match individual donations to registered Canadian charitable organizations to support humanitarian and early recovery assistance to people affected by the earthquake in Haiti on January 12th.

“Many Canadians are deeply concerned about the suffering and loss of life as a result of this catastrophe in Haiti,” said Minister Oda. “Canadian citizens have shown time and again their generosity with countries in urgent need, and our government is prepared to match their contributions dollar for dollar.”

The Government of Canada will match the contributions of individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations in support of humanitarian and recovery efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti, up to a total of $50 million. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will allocate these funds to Canadian and international humanitarian and development organizations.

Donations made by individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations over the period of January 12 to February 12, 2010 will be matched by the Government of Canada through the CIDA-managed Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. Michael Jackson

Jacko basks in the applause at the end of his final concert in LA.

MICHAEL Jackson’s death certificate rules he WAS murdered, the News of the World can reveal.

We obtained a copy of the document and an amendment to it – that have never been published.

On the original July 7 certificate deputy coroner Cheryl MacWillie refuses to give a cause of death.
Hollywood legal eagle Michael Flanagan saved a nurse from a murder charge when she was accused of wrongly administering painkiller Propofol.

Murray already has a Houston law firm building his defence. Police affidavits say he admitted loading up Jacko, 50, with Propofol and other drugs in the hours before his death.

The prosecution is likely to use lawyer Patrick Dixon, who helped put Phil Spector behind bars.

Tiger Woods is a young man to retire, especially considering how many feel about his stature in the world of golf. His former coach, Butch Harmon, is sure that Tiger Woods will be back on the links.

Harmon coached Tiger Woods from 1992-2002. He thinks Woods will play in the US Open and The Open at St Andrews this year.

“Those who say he will never play again are crazy,” he told The Sun, “I think he will play this year. The reason I say that is two of the Major venues this year – the US Open at Pebble Beach and The Open at St Andrews – are two of his favorite places.”

Tiger Woods has seen suprising support from golf experts and from his many business associates, especially in light of the nature of the scandal surrounding him.

It’s almost as if some people dealt with two different Tiger Woods. Harmon counts himself among those who didn’t know anything about Tiger’s naughty nature. He said he was shocked by the reports he was reading about his former student.

(Kampala, Uganda) A provision that would impose the death penalty for some gays is likely to be removed from the proposed legislation following opposition from Uganda’s president, the country’s ethics minister said Thursday.
President Yoweri Museveni has told colleagues he believes the bill is too harsh and has encouraged his ruling National Resistance Movement Party to overturn the death sentence provision, which would apply to sexually active gays living with HIV or in cases of same-sex rape.

The proposed bill, though, says anyone convicted of a homosexual act would face life imprisonment and it is unclear whether Museveni supports that provision or not.

Gay rights activists say the bill promotes hatred and could set back efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in the conservative East African country. Protests already have been held in London, New York and Washington.

“The death penalty is likely to be removed,” said James Nsaba Buturo, Uganda’s minister of state for ethics and integrity. “The president doesn’t believe in killing gays. I also don’t believe in it. I think gays can be counseled and they stop the bad habit.”

Ruling party spokeswoman Mary Karoro Okurut said she also agrees with the president that some punishments in the bill should be dropped. But she said she will still push for a modified version of the bill when it comes to parliament in late February or early March.

“Although the president is against some parts of the bill, the bill has to stay,” she said. “(Homosexuality) is not allowed in African culture. We have to protect the children in schools who are being recruited into homosexual activities.”
