The NBA’s premier point guard demonstrates why a down vest is that one piece of winterwear no man on the go should ever go without.

It was a Cinderella story to rival even the Celtics’ bottom-to-top run: After two years of slumming it in Oklahoma City, the New Orleans Hornets return to their home arena, where a 23-year-old point guard ignites the court and saves the franchise from permanent relocation. And while Chris Paul may not have carried his team as far as Allen, Pierce, Garnett, and company, 2008 was the year he officially stole the title of most dazzling point guard in the league from Steve Nash. And there’s that Olympic gold, too. Here, Paul looks back. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s still Tiger Time as far as TAG Heuer is concerned.

The prestigious watchmaker has clarified Friday’s reports that it had dropped Tiger Woods as a “brand ambassador” in the wake of his adultery scandals.

In a statement to UsMagazine.com, TAG Heuer President and CEO Jean-Christoph Babin says, “the partnership with Tiger Woods will continue.” With some temporary modifications, that is.

“We will downscale the use of his image in certain markets for a period of time, depending on his decision about returning to professional golf,” Babin explains.

The decision to “downscale” was made out of “respect” for Woods’ “privacy” at this time. “We will continue to actively support the Tiger Woods Foundation,” Babin adds.

Wednesday our Stadium Style expert Adam Rapoport finally put to rest the half-century-old question of whether you, the GQ reader, can pull off a fur coat: Hell no—not unless you’re Magic Johnson circa 1986. Well, this must be Give Your Favorite Basketball Players A Pass On The Rules By Which The Rest Of Us Are Inextricably Bound Week, because to the otherwise hard and fast law that you should never, under any circumstances, refer to yourself in the third person, we recently discovered the one exception. (And no, it’s not this guy.)

The new rule is this: If you speak nine languages and graduated with a dual degree in linguistics and diplomacy from Georgetown University while spending your summers interning at Congress and the World Bank and setting an all-time Hoya record for most blocked shots in a single game; if you went on to enjoy a stellar, nearly-two-decade long NBA career, earning eight All-Star nods and establishing yourself as one of the greatest defensive forces to ever step foot on a basketball court; if the tens of thousands of shots that you swatted into the press box or otherwise altered for the worse by dint of sheer intimidation were far, far outnumbered by the millions of lives you touched during each offseason (among those aided: a group of underprivileged youth in Johannesburg who live in the dorms your foundation re-furbished, the hundreds of thousands of children throughout Africa who’ve attended your basketball clinics, and your fellow countrymen who now receive improved care at Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital—named for your late mother—the first new hospital to be built in the Democratic Republic of Congo in nearly forty years); and if you were just named to the recently-created post of NBA Global Ambassador, whose essential mission is to help unite the world through basketball… then your name is Dikembe Mutombo, and you, sir, are the only man we know who is perfectly entitled to refer to himself in the third person whenever he damn well pleases.

But I’m not ‘freeballing’, I’m wearing underwear underneath.” The baller stood up and modeled front and rear gave a peek of what was in his “pockets”.

The golfer has already paid the $164 fine. State attorney’s office officials told Florida troopers there is insufficient evidence to pursue case further and no claims of domestic violence were made.

Reporting from Orlando, Fla. – After five days of speculation about Tiger Woods’ crash outside his mansion, the Florida Highway Patrol announced Tuesday it gave the world’s No. 1 golfer a traffic ticket.

Woods already has paid the $164 fine, court records show.

Woods, 33, drove carelessly when he steered his Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and then into a neighbor’s tree about 2:25 a.m. Friday, troopers said. In addition to the fine, he received four points on his driving record, FHP spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said.

During a brief news conference, Montes insisted that the world-famous athlete had not received special treatment.

The Orange-Osceola state attorney’s office advised troopers there was insufficient evidence to issue a subpoena or require that blood evidence from Woods’ hospitalization be handed to investigators, said Maj. Cindy Williams.

No one involved in the incident made any claims of domestic violence, Williams said. Such allegations might have compelled investigators to look further into the accident.

While capturing his fourth NBA title this year, Kobe Bryant confidently reasserted his claim to being the best player on the planet. And as he pulls on an elite selection of peak-lapel suits, it’s fair to say he’s never looked better.

Mokgadi Caster Semenya (born 7 January 1991) is a South African middle-distance runner and world champion. Semenya won gold in the 800 metres at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics with a time of 1:55.45 in the final.

Following her victory at the 2009 World Championships, questions about Semenya’s gender were raised.

In August Semenya won gold in the 800 meters at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics with a time of 1:55.45 in the final, again setting the fastest time of the year. Following her victory, questions were raised about her gender. Semenya stated she was unconcerned about the rumours or the verification and that she considered boycotting the medal ceremony as a result.

Dramatic update to the case of South African middle distance runner Caster Semenya. The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee has suspended Athletics South Africa President Leonard Chuene, the entire board and other ASA employees “for their handling of the Caster Semenya gender fiasco”, reports Independent Online. SASOC suspended ASA after the athletics body challenged its authority to suspend Chuene.

The 18-year-old University of Pretoria athlete has been the subject of a gender controversy since winning the 800m race in record time at the IAAF games. The results of complex gender tests were leaked last week that reveal she is intersexed with internal testes and no uterus or ovaries. Chuene previously denied gender verification tests were begun on Semenya before Berlin. IAAF sources say ASA was “well aware” of Caster Semenya’s medical condition and did not tell her.
