Note to producers worried about the tough economics of Broadway: If you can’t get a big-name movie star to anchor your show, consider enlisting a groundbreaking choreographer to liven things up.

Featuring a book by Jones and Jim Lewis and the pulsating rhythms and radical lyrics of Fela’s music, the show, which had its world premiere off-Broadway last year, teaches the American musical new moves. And I’m not just referring to what happens onstage. Like the current Broadway revival of “Hair,” directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by the cutting-edge Karole Armitage, “Fela!” doesn’t permit theatergoers to sit by passively.

Fela 2 A rousing, always in motion Sahr Ngaujah, who alternates in the title role with Kevin Mambo, enjoins the audience to sing and shake their derrieres along with him. A skimpily clad ensemble streams up and down the aisle to bring the musical’s energy directly to us. Differences in age and size are no obstacles as spectators learn to get down West African style: For 2 1/2 bouncy hours, self-consciousness is magically held in abeyance.

This dissident journey isn’t related with anything resembling documentary thoroughness (Fela’s run-ins with the authorities are fuzzily presented and there’s oddly no mention of his death from AIDS-related causes). But the spirit of his fight for justice is made universally resonant, and the fusion of his sound is rapturously celebrated with a pinwheel parade of pelvises.

Dustin Baker, the only openly gay seminarian at the Howard University School of Divinity, tells of his experience in the black church as a gay man and how hes risen above it to find his calling in ministry. This powerful and inspirational video can be screened and discussed in a small or large group.

Unfortunately, only a handfulof historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have recognized LGBT student groups. In some cases, the colleges outright prevent gay students from forming groups. In other casess, such as at Virginia’s Hampton University, the LGBT group was only founded after years of red tape and bureaucracy. The plight of black students on campus becomes all the more critical in the wake of recent news stories, such as the controversial new dress code at Morehouse College.

The Human Rights Campaign has just launched a new interactive website for HBCU students. Joey Gaskins of HRC’s Diversity Department writes: “The issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students on Historically Black College and University campuses are many. Discrimination motivated by homophobia and intolerance is rampant, and LGBT students are suffering because of it… there are brave HBCU students living openly on campuses that are not LGBT friendly—not only dealing with issues at school—but in their homes and churches too. Students like Dustin Baker, Howard University School of Divinity’s only out seminarian.”

Namibian fans, friends and family have been hit with tragic news as they learn of the passing of one of their best R&B crooners in the game. News of Roger Itembu’s sudden death from a car accident alongside music producer, Julius “Eclipse” Spiegel who also died, came as a shock to the whole Namibian nation.

Roger was most well known for his ability to pin down catchyR&B tunes. Just before his passing, Roger was on tour promoting his “Here I Am “ album. At the age of 26, Roger is one of those talents that has definitely gone too soon.

Rest in peace sir and we know that now you in a better place. Your music will forever live on amongst all your friends, fans and family….

Born in Dakar, Senegal, country of the “Teranga” (hospitality), a term that he loves to use when referencing his native land, Cherif Ndiaye constitutes a symbol among models. He is among the sexiest models in the industry, for those of you who don’t know him. With his faith in God and his dedication to hard work, he broke through this niche and gained visibility in the world of modeling.

Cherif has been doing great and has done huge campaign advertisements for companies like Target. He has embraced the cover of many magazines, including African Vibe. Cherif is not only a model, but a role model for other models by being humble in what he does! You will see big things with this remarkable guy. This year’s Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the American President, Barack Obama.

The Nobel Committee awards its 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.
